What’s in a name? A heck of a lot!

I believe that a large part of living a creative life is living in a way that reflects who you truly are.

There are a lot of different reasons why someone might decide to change their name. Sometimes it is because of a life change, a marriage or perhaps even a divorce. For some it is to find fame, or anonymity. Creative people often change their names to more truly reflect to others who they are. To show their authentic selves.

You have probably noticed over the last few weeks that I have been undergoing a change as well. Many of you have only ever known me as JJ Frederickson – or JJ the Life Coach. As I started on this journey to becoming my true, authentic, creative self – and to help other women do the same – I began to realize that the name JJ didn’t really reflect who I was anymore.

As I learned to live with and overcome the health concerns that had been dragging me down for so long I not only was able to regain my own creativity and inner fire but I was rediscovering my spark, my own personal joy.

During the early stages of creating the Spark Your Being program I was having a discussion with one of my mentors. When I told her that I had been considering using my full name for the program instead of JJ the Life Coach she was an enthusiastic supporter. She told me – “This is who you are now. You’re not just JJ anymore. Through this journey you’ve become who you were truly born to be”.

You’ve become Jennifer JOY!”

Her words – and her belief in the positive changes I had made in my life helped strengthen my determination. The launch of Spark Your Being was the perfect time for me to begin moving away from being  JJ the Life Coach, and start embracing Jennifer Joy – Spark Your Being Mentor.  Although I may not be changing my name in the traditional sense – as Jennifer Joy has been my full name all along – by moving forward introducing myself as  Jennifer Joy I am fully embracing my roots and where I came from. Embracing an aspect of who I am truly for the first time.

Your Spark Exploration for this week:
  • Is there some aspect of yourself that you have always wanted to be able to accept and embrace about yourself? Perhaps it is something – like your name – that for whatever reason didn’t always resonate with you? Or maybe it’s a compliment that people seem to give you, yet you find it hard to believe about yourself?

Thank You for taking the time from your own busy lives to read what I have to share. If you haven’t already – please join us at the new Spark Your Being facebook page for all the latest updates from us.

Until next time,
